Other Frequently Asked Questions Is PeopleField.org really free to use? Since October 2001 we've offered online classifieds and forums to the city of Calgary and Edmonton, and we will continue to do so for the years ahead. During this time we have been active in bringing non-profit, charities, and citizens' better ways to exchange goods and services. As we grow in popularity, we'll expand to other cities and countries. Currently we serve all Canadian provincial capitals, and several other Canadian cities. To maintain this site, we are funded by the operations of Lopedia, our parent company, and the support of users that upgrade their posts to Featured (which can also make the posts run nationally). At some time we may charge for some of the listings (jobs, housing, cars) in order to better serve and grow the site, but we plan on never charging for common classifieds (used goods, old children's wear, etc.)! So, for most people, this site should remain free to use, forever! What is an "Active" or "Recent" classified? PeopleField prides it self on only showing recently posted classifieds (ever been to a classifieds site and found posts a year or more old!). With PeopleField, we only show and count the classifieds posted or renewed in the last twenty-one (21) days, and community listings posted or renewed in the last ninety (90) days! What is a Featured classified or Featured community listing? Featured classifieds and community listings bring more traffic, awareness, and response to your ad. We give them prominent positioning in the listings, in-site advertising, and additional features not in the regular – free – service. It is the process used to post your classified or community nationally or internationally to all 76 cities. Featured classifieds run for 28 days without renewal, and Featured community listings can run 4, 8 or 12 months withouth requiring renewal. There is a small charge that goes to maintaining and growing (yeah!) PeopleField. How do I post a classified? Once you register and log in to PeopleField (which is easy, no charge), simply click the link "Add Classified! FREE!" in the nav bar at the top of the page, under Classifieds! Click and post! How long is the post good for? Classified posts are active for twenty-one (21) days. If your post is running out of time, you could always renew (it's free) your post (see below)! How do I see all of my own classifieds? Once you log in, the nav bar at the top of the page will display “Your Account” which you can hover over for more options. One option is "Your Classifieds!". Select "Your Classifieds!" and that will take you to a page that displays all your active and recently expired ads. There you can edit, renew, or delete your ads! How do I post a community, business or organization to the directory? If your post is running out of time, you could always renew your post (see below)! You can extend the time the listing is displayed without renewal by upgrading it to featured. How do I see all of my own community listings? Once you log in, the nav bar at the top of the page will display “Your Account” which you can hover over for more options. One option is "Your Community Listings!". Select "Your Community Listings!" and that will take you to a page that displays all your active and recently expired listings. There you can edit, renew, or delete your listings! How is Rank determined for community listings? Rankings for Community Lists are determined by many factors that may include (but not limited to) the number of times the listing has been viewed, how long the listing has been active, feedback on the listing, and how many times people have followed the link to your site from the page. One factor most certainly included in determining rank is the number of visitors that you have sent to PeopleField through special code available once you add a listing. By linking back with the code provided, you can improve the listing's position in the rankings. Please note: Rankings are in no way a determination, judgment or statement to the service or quality of the business listed – rankings are specific to the lists performance on PeopleField. How do I edit my post? You can edit your post as many times as you wish. On the page displaying your classified or listing you will see a link to "Edit this classified/listing!" near the bottom of the page. Click and edit! You can also edit the ad from the "Your Classifieds!" or "Your Community Listings" in the Nav Bar (when logged in)! How do I delete my post? You can delete your post at any time. On the page displaying your classified you will see a link to "Delete Classified/Listing!" near the bottom of the page. Click and delete! You can also delete the ad from the "Your Classifieds!"or "Your Community Listings" in the Nav Bar (when logged in)! How do I renew my post? You can renew your post at any time. On the page displaying your classified or listing you will see a link to "Renew this classified/listing!". Click and renew! Your post will then be good for twenty-one (for classifieds) or twenty-one (community listings) days from the moment you renew. You can renew a post multiple times! You can also renew the ad from the "Your Classifieds!" or "Your Community Listings" in the Nav Bar (when logged in)! How do I add HTML or pictures? You can add HTML-like code when making your post. Each section has a pop-up window showing our PeopleField code, which works just like HTML. We use our code to secure the pages against malicious users. You can even apply our version of HTML to your signature! How do I create a signature? You can add a standard signature to the bottom of each of your posts (both classifieds and forums!). To create a signature, navigate to your user profile (click on the smiley face - in the Site Navigation bar - if you are logged in), and select "Visible Profile". Create signature! How do I post to different cities? Your profile is keyed to a specific city. This helps limit people from another country posting to your city site. Hey - PeopleField is about you communicating with others in your city. Nothing stops you from reading and searching other cities, just not to post freely! To post nationally or internationally, use PeopleField's Featured system - which can post you ad to all 76 cities in the system at once, and from one ad to manage, edit and renew (also from one account, otherwise you would need at least 76 accounts, and risk having them removed for TOS requirements). My city has no classifieds listed! PeopleField launched in Calgary several years ago, and is our primary and most active city. Since then we've decided to add a bunch of cities accross Canada (all Provincial capitals and some). These cities are not yet as active as Calgary, but could be!
