New Member Registered	Have heard some 'less than flattering' things about the Back Alley, however I went there a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't that bad! Good music and lots of attractive 'sights'... Although, not being 18 anymore myself, I did want to ID most of the patrons [This post edited by moveebuff on 17 October 2003 ]

Active Member Registered	Let's have a club that you must be over 30 to get into..that has great wild and weird shows..no smoking(outside only)..that plays contemporary dance music by a d.j that knows Euro dance as well as others and doesn't just play things that he thinks are cool...and that has friendly service staff. Come on Calgary...IT IS POSSIBLE!!! Its so easy to just coast along and count your dollars but soon they run out as people stop coming to your clubs and they go out of business.I cannot count the number of clubs in this town that have changed hands or gone broke in the last 5 years....Rick

New Member Registered	Tantra is an interesting place to go. It looks amazing, but it was only playing House last night... so If you like that type of music, there is a place for you. Oh and if you don't smoke, don't go upstairs, I think they forgot to turn the fans on.

Active Member Registered	Yikes, wish I had found this site earlier. I book a couple of bands in Calgary that actually PLAY live eurodance-ish music. One is live, (think Portisehead), another is a DJ with live musicians playing hard house/progressive breaks. I have to admit it's hard to find tunes in town that are more 'alternative'. Here's what I suggest: a) Try Detour. It's a gay club, and have fantastic danceable tunes. No, you don't have to be gay to attend, but do go with an open mind. Other venues I'd try would be SkyBar, the Warehouse (although pretty industrial most nights), the Palace, or maybe even the Embassy? (Although I hear it's closed down). b) Feel free to email me if you want to attend one of my band's events (I won't blatantly self-promote here!). c) Clubvibes.com (Calgary section), or Electrocalgary.com usually list the more DJ-y events in town.

New Member Registered	I've stumbled onto a little gem of a club here. It dosn't have a big following yet, dosn't get overly busy...It's central and the most important aspect of it are the cheap highballs! It's called MANHATTANS and it's right beside NYLA at 1213 1st st SW. It's a little silver door. Here's the deal, Thursdays, $3 Doubles all night long plus free pizza and no cover. They spin House, Breaks, Disco, Retro and Funk. Friday, $1 high balls from 9-11...various dj's spinning various techno. Saturdays, $1 highballs till 11..It's the Gruve with Domenic G and Delerious and guests. I had a great time there and the more people that show the better it will be. There is ample seating, dance floor and space. Come one come all it's a good time! Also, there's no dress code for those of you that care....and if anything it's a good place to get smashed early and move on due to it's location
