The Eyewear Place - poor service, impolite staff, overprices (1 post)

Click for profile 		I would like to bring your attention to the unsatisfactory business practices of The Eyewear Place located in Londonderry Mall, Edmonton.

The Eyewear Place's associates have not provided me with sufficient and adequate information to make informed choice in purchasing their product.
When I came to the store to get the trial pare of contact lenses for which I had already paid ($26 for contact lenses assessment), I asked to be provided with simple directions as to how to wear them. In response, I was told that I had to pay an additional fee of $30 to get the necessary training and to be eligible to get this product.
It turned out that the information about their service and charges I had been previously provided by the Eyewear Place's associates was neither honest nor complete as far as this was the first time I heard about the additional fee for training and eligibility.
Instead getting an apology, I was told by a salesperson in a quite unpleasant manner that I had either to pay this additional fee or to leave getting neither the product nor a refund.
The conversation with the manager and the doctor's assistant was equally unpleasant and offering no resolution. In light of this I had no choice but to leave the store neither being properly served nor receiving a refund.
Before leaving, I asked them to give me a copy of my health and other personal information they had collected.
Surprisingly, I was refused even that.
The doctor's assistant was untruthful in saying that no measurement whatsoever had been taken during the contact lenses assessment (for example, re: tears' parameters), that this was not a part of the assessment, and therefore that virtually no health information of mine had been collected and ultimately nothing could be released to me.
Finally, upon insisting to be given a copy, she gave me a piece of paper with some numbers on it (presumably, tears parameters), but without any comments, explanations or any other information, actually without even a single word on it.
In response to my request to be provided with a copy of my data including all personal information of mine collected by them, I was told that they had not collected/kept any information of mine whatsoever, and was asked to leave the store. I believe, this was a legitimate request under the Alberta Personal Information Protection Act.
AND ALL THE TIME THEY WERE VERY, I MEAN VERY UNPLEASANT, IF NOT SIMPLY RUDE!

Is this a result of the Alberta economic boom complimented with disrespect to customers, or an isolated case of a poor business practice?
I strongly believe that businesses have to adhere to high customer service standards as well as that the relationship between sellers and buyers have to be based on integrity, honesty and mutual respect. Otherwise, one day we will find ourselves living in a society dominated by dishonesty, arrogance and rudeness.

Has someone had similarly bad experience?
