Please someone tell me there is support out there to help me with my daughter. I am tired of hearing my hands are tied, there is nothing we can do for you (Police favorite saying) or we can only councile your daughter if she is willing to except the help (Social Services favorite saying). I have been told to communicate with her and not to use harsh punshment because I, I could be in trouble with the law. Tell me who at 14 is going to be willing to do anything? I need support from the Police, she needs counseling, but no one will help unless she wants it. Someone please tell me what happened to the authority role as parents. I am at my witts end and begining to feel that I am willing to except the punshiment the law says I deserve if I "harshly" punish her. Please if anyone is out there in the same boat and has some advise for me, Please,Please let me know. My only objective here is to get help for her before its to late. (pregant, aids, drugs, booze, ect.)

I am truly sorry to hear that your teen has run away! The goverment has started all this with the new age of consent this kind of thing is happening more then ever before Kids are runnig away from home like crazy and quiting school at the same time. This is the wourst law we have ever made what future can a 14 year old have after this. Bye the time they realize what they have done they'll be tweenty with a crimminall record and no education. Oh ya maybe a child or two as well the law must be changed to give parent much more power over there kid's to the age of at least eighteen. Ryshell3 I will pray to Jesus that God will return your child safly to you!

Hi, It's truly sad when a teen runs away.........I was one......I started running away at 13. Now I don't know what your circumstances are but here are some of the reasons I did.....I was lacking proper attention and guidence from my dad and STEPMOM (whom i still hate to this day). Being a teen is not exactually the easiest time of a persons life. I mean you may look at your teen and think everything is all right and really in the teen's eyes everything is a mess. You all know this because you were there once. I really hope you find help for your Teen and not all runaways turn to crime......I didn't......still to this day haven't been in trouble with the law for anything. As for social services stay away from them .....yes the law requires you to protect your child and what not but once social services is involved they will manage to twist it to look like you are at fault for your childs behaviour. Teen's are a walking ball of hormones and I found that just haveing someone to talk to "be my friend" made a really big difference. When my mom decided to be my friend as well as my mom things changed alot. Not only did she give me the guidence and the attention I needed she also was one of my best friends someone who I could tell everything too. And not feel awakward about. You are looking for help....once again I don't know your circumstances but when I was forced to go to counselling I pushed my self farther away from my family. What worked for me was "hanging out" with my mom, going for coffee etc....... I really hope you connect with you Teen, It's a tough transition for some. All the best and good luck
P.S I have 2 kids of my own

I also am sorry to hear about your situation. I don't have any real advise for the runaway teen - but I do know of a program that might help other parents before the situation gets this out-of-hand.

There is a program in Vancouver, called Air Time Canada, that was originally designed for kids in detention centers. It's a hands-on aviation program - but it uses aviation (because it's cool and exciting) as a way to reach teens and foster the development of many positive things (leadership, responsibility, confidence, authority acceptance, ...). The program is really nicely done and allows teens and parents to both particpate (together). The best thing is that it's even free (yes, really).

For the last few years the program has been open to the general public (not just teens-at-risk). It's worth checking out: www.airfun.org

I'm sorry to hear this. I have been having the same problem with my teen daughter. Now she's living with some strange people she met on the internet and is pregnant at 16. It's legal at 16 for them to live on their own. Try as hard as you can before she turns that age. I do have some advice for you though, call Constable Hobor of the missing childrens department of the Calgary Police. He makes that extra effort. I tracked my daughter and he had police out when needed and gave me permission for anyone to call 911 when they saw her. He really cares about the children and even takes his work home with him. If you would like his #, email me.
