Hello!
My younger brother has been looking for a job that will pay him $10/hour and up. He has been looking for the last 4 months, as I have been helping him out I know quite a bit of this ordeal. I am once again seeking anyone out there who needs an honest, extremely hard working, strong 22 year old male with a clean record on all accounts please email me and I will send you his resume. I have a psychology degree and am currrently finishing a Human Resources diploma, and for the life of me cannot understand why my brother is not being highered. He is a clean, very smart individual one thing that goes against him is the fact that he gets very nervous at interviews. I understand this is a bit of an odd scenario but I am trying anyways. He lives in Calgary but is willing to go out and travel...like Ft. Mac or on the rigs. Any information or leads anyone can provide us, would be more then appreciated. Thank you!

There is lots of rig work you just have to know who to go to. Placement agency like Diverisfied or Marks Staffing are it for the oil industry. Also a company called Ensign Drilling here in Calgary hire at this time of year.

Thank you to those who offered help in any way shape or form. He found a job...but not the $10/hour which is what he was looking for. Jobs like that are plenty, you know the ones that pay minimum wage and he was actually looking for the $10 and up. To answer someones questions as to why I was looking for hiom instead of himn alone.....I do this for everyone who needs help! I help every single person I know in what ever they may need help with. This time it happened to be my brother...

Once again thank you.

Hate to break it to you and your brother but you don't start out in life as a CEO, or making an instant million. You have to work your way up......and that usually means starting out with minimum wage jobs, gaining experience, then having that experience to bring to a better paying job. There's many people out there in their 30s and 40s who are working for minimum wage - why should a 22 yr old "expect" to make more right off the bat?

But maybe the issue here is that he needs some coaching with doing well at interviews - as you indicated that he has difficult with them, due to shyness. I'm almost positive that places like the UI (Manpower, Employment Insurance) office would offer workshops on how to excel at an interview.

And that's nice of you to help him find a job but if he thinks he deserves a $10 an hour job, maybe he needs to show some incentive and take the initiative himself to find a job - versus you helping him....what's that going to teach him?

There's tons of job search engines out there, for jobs in Canada, Alberta, Calgary...many list the starting wage. The opportunities for a young guy are numerous....from construction to the oilpatch .....I think even clerks at Safeway and Co-op pay pretty well......

Highered, hey? (laughing)

It's a terrible shame that people like yourselves, marky and msmarbles, come to these forums only to add your sour opinions and thoughts. these chats are a way for people to connect and share; noone should have to feel harrassed or intimidated simply because they type a spelling error! there is no need, msmarbles, to affect such a crass and bitter tone when speaking to others. you obvioulsy need to learn some manners, otherwise save your sour speech for someone who cares to listen!

Hello "kale7334" the market here in Calgary is very good for someone in your field. My suggestions to you would be the ALIS government website, or any other recruiting agency. Try Diversified, peoplebank or my particular favorite www.dmacanada.net as they give fast results, especially with your field. DMA have helped out alot of people that I know that have the degrees and education that corporate companies are looking for. My only word of advise, if you have not moved yet, is to make sure you have a place to live as things are a bit tight in Calgary for housing/accomodations. Wish you all the best!

Regarding your question below, I also met a young person in the same position - very popular, very well respected, honest, decent, hard working, and so on. Came from Ontario but couldn't find work here easily. No, he wasn't looking for a managment position, but he didn't want to do the worst work either, and he shouldn't have had to. Finally he returned to Ontario. That's the secret.

People need to find work in locations where they will know of many workers within the specific company they would like to work in -- or at least one or two anyway. Many employers don't like hiring unknowns regardless of paper references and would prefer to hire those recommended by good workers who are already with the company.

If your friend is as wonderful as the person I know, I wish him luck. Trouble is that a lot of these young guys are so humble they just don't know how to go about selling themselves. Sometimes it's easier for a less popular outspoken character to get a job than those who, for whatever reason, cannot recognize their own worth.

Places like Toastmasters' Clubs may be able to help people like this, but I'm sad to say that much of the way they present themselves will have a lot to do with the image they developed of themselves when they were very young. That can be most difficult to change for many years.

If you cant get a job right now in Alberta for $20 an hour + educated or not there has to be someting your doing wrong. Cover up that swastika tattoo on you arm, as a minimum try and wear unsoiled clothing to your interview, abstain from alcohol for at least 1 hour prior and use paper to write your resume on, not a cocktail napkin from Hooters. Follow that advice and you will have any job you want. You owe me big.

Thank you for the postive and negative comments. For those who are so quick to judge and be negative about subject matters such as my brothers...know this - regardless of an individual having a PhD or grade 5, I believe that honest hard working individuals will prevail. And for the record my brother has a computer science university degree ( recieved in from UofA the year he turned 21)....I write this post now - as he is officially 25 and works for a globall computer maker and makes over $60 a year...not bad for an honest hard working individual!

I wish you all the best, and once again I do thank the positive and negative comments.
